2016 Mazda CX-5 GT AWD w/Tech Pkg. Contributor. : Plano, Texas, USA. Feb 10, 2023. #3. Firstly, there’s no timing belt on the 2.2L diesel. Secondly, the unexpected overheating without ANY warnings which usually will spread coolant around in the engine bay is a very common problem on Mazda’s SkyActiv-D 2.2L diesel.
It is an MZR-CD 2.2 136 kW (185 hp) Diesel from 2011. Apparently this engine had a weak spot on the injector seals - leading to a complete failiure of the engine due to blocking of the oil sieve ?? Which happend for me @ 125.000 km mileage. Mazda have upgraded this part due to unspecified problems so I thought it was worth a shot. The sensor sits on top of the engine at the back, under the heat shield. The original sensor is a plastic block with an orange rubber cover whereas the new part is stainless steel and circular.
